The first post for Friday Flashback in 2014 comes from one of my favorite singers, Mr. Freddie McGregor, who hails from Clarendon, Jamaica. Starting his music career in the 1960's, McGregor has filled roles as singer-songwriter, musician and producer, having scored hits with "Bobby Babylon", "Big Ship", "I Was Born A Winner", "Push Come To Shove" and others. Throughout the course of his music career, McGregor has performed every stylistic progression in popular Jamaican music from Ska to Rocksteady, Reggae, Lovers Rock and Dancehall.
One tune that has resonated with me for many years, that I still keep in rotation is his single from 1991 titled "To Be Poor Is A Crime", which was released on his own Big Ship Records.
