Question: Re-Deux

Not that i'm sleeping on anyone, but the world of music seems almost as vast as the universe. When I do come across something that's ear worthy, you better believe i'm going to share it. Question is someone i'm not quite familiar with, but now i'm glad I got to hear his tunes. Thanks again to the folks over at Mellow Orange for signing up another good artist. And yet another FREE download. Enjoy!

DJ Jazzy Jeff & Ayah: Back For More

I caught this about a week ago via Twitter after I saw Vikter Duplaix and Questlove tweeted about it. After a pretty busy schedule of putting in work and family, I finally got around to it. A man who's very well deserving of being called "The Magnificent", DJ Jazzy Jeff, a heavyweight in his own right, comes back with another classic banger with a talented vocalist by the name of Ayah. Some things you pretty much know are going to be sweet based on name alone, but it's even sweeter when something amazing is given to supporters for FREE. Visit their Bandcamp page now and get it while you can. Enjoy!

Finest Ego: United Kingdom / Ireland Compilation

Cruising the internet on my usual quest for new and interesting music, I come across this compilation of beat junkies put together by the folks at Project Mooncircle. As I scroll through the artists and tracks, I notice my man Bobby Tank from the UK is amongst the contributors. His "On 2 You" is like 80's flashback flipped. You may have seen posts of his tracks on here from before. If not, go check out his previous tracks.

It was sort of hard to pick another track for this post, because there is some amazing stuff in this compilation. Had to show my homey more love, but I decided to go with Kelpe's "Beat Imperial" as the other tune to represent. Finest Ego: United Kingdom / Ireland Compilation drops August 5th, so get this crack when they open the download links.

Little Dragon: Ritual Union

If you're not familiar with Little Dragon, by all means get familiar. The electro-pop quartet formed in 2006 and represent Gothenburg, Sweden, fronted by the lovely Yukimi Nagano. For their third album Ritual Union, which dropped this past Monday, the group is showing maturity as musicians by sharpening up their sound. I many cases, I feel almost like it's putting them in a box by classifying them as I did in the previous sentence. They display much more than one simple tag with their conglomerate of sounds.

Show your support for these Peacefrog family members by getting over to Little Dragon's Website and order the bonus remix EP via iTunes. Enjoy!

Georgia Anne Muldrow: Momma Music

Just wanted to take the time to pay homage to the very gifted and talented Georgia Anne Muldrow, the first lady of Stones Throw Records. I first got a taste of her talents via the Platinum Pied Pipers' Triple P album that was released in 2005. Since then, she has been gaining steam by composing, writing, producing and performing.

The video below is why I dub her as "Momma Music". As you can see, she's at her home working on the remix for "Suite For Ma Dukes Untitled/Fantastic" with her young son on her lap. Being well versed on keyboards, Akai MPC and other production gear, she has provided tracks for Dudley Perkins/Declaime, LMNO, Erykah Badu, J*Davey, Peanut Butter Wolf, Eagle Nebula, Dwight Trible, Dego of 4 Hero and for her own projects.

Visit Stones Throw to purchase her releases, tour schedule and more info.

Space Kid: 5thelement

A couple of days ago Space Kid a.k.a. Beat-Maker-Beat dropped this new banger on his Soundcloud page. I'm not sure how long this "Rockin' Russian" has been on the scene, but having caught my ears last summer, i've been spinning his tracks ever since. Enjoy!

Median: The Sender

Some hot new Hip-Hop flavor coming from the +FE Music family, by an artist some of you may be familiar with. Median has previously worked with Illmind, Little Brother, Justus League, Jean Grae and on other projects. He's set to release The Sender on August 16th via +FE Music/JAMLA. For now, get the title track for free. Enjoy!

Sunday Jazz @ Khon's: Cory Wilson Trio

The last few weeks have been great for me, and I have been taking it all in stride hanging out with my family and friends. In between gigs, I have taken in a little more of the live music scene, hearing some blues bands, old school cover bands and to visit my good friends over at Khon's Bar in Midtown. Yeah, it's the spot where I used to spin at on occasion.

Along with fellow patrons, drinks and good food, there are also chances for you to hear many good local musicians and to feast your eyes on some hot visual art that accents the whole experience. This past Sunday, me and my family went to hear this cool cat on sax named Cory Wilson and his comrades on upright bass and drums for Sunday Jazz. It's an excellent way to close out your weekend before heading home to get rested to start your work week again. For hours, music schedules and other information, log on to Khon's Bar.

Zo!: Just Visiting Three

Zo! blesses us again with another installment of his Just Visiting series, featuring Phonte, the beautiful Sy Smith, ERRO, Jean Jolly, Nicholas Ryan Gant and Anthony David. I consider him an amazingly great pianist and producer, who's one of the young gods in the world of music production. I'm looking forward to many more years of hearing his sound.

Be sure to visit the +FE Official Website to get this FREE DOWNLOAD and to say thanks for an incredible job well done. The download also comes with a digital booklet with info on the artists and music. Enjoy!

Voice: Know Rhythm

I purchased this vinyl some years back and is a favorite of mine to spin when i'm spinning lounge sets. For those who aren't familiar with Voice, she been paying dues for quite some time, having worked with Marc Mac of 4 Hero, Wax Tailor, Zero dB and Moonstarr, her labelmate on Public Transit Recordings, who produced the "B" side ("Guerilla Hustlin'") of this record. Both tunes are available on her Gumbo album that you can purchase on PTR's website. Enjoy!

PR+SW: Monumental (Official Video)

If you haven't gotten the Monumental album by Pete Rock and Smif n' Wessun which dropped 3 weeks ago, then you're missing a treat. In my opinion, this could well be deemed a classic. Now is your turn to head over to iTunes to get a digital copy. For now, check out the official video for the title song. Enjoy!

Freddie Joachim: Waves

Since superhero movies are coming out like rapid fire, I guess it's safe to consider Freddie Joachim likened to Thor. He's dropping gem after gem as if he's gotten his power from the beat gods, not in the form of a hammer, but as if he's been granted a special MPC to work his magic on. Mellow Orange is spoiling the hell out of us with these FREE downloads. Listen below, then go grab this freebie. Enjoy!

Tokyo Dawn Records: The Heart Vol. 2

I was late checking my inbox for this compilation. After finally cracking it open and checking it out, I must say, then I might not say enough of how greatly impressed I am with this upcoming release titled The Heart Volume 2. If you're looking for an album (of sorts) that you can listen to from beginning to end, this is one to add to your collection.

This is an album for those who love Jazz and classic R&B. Whether you're soaking in the tub, about to have a candle lit dinner, or driving, this is a great soundtrack for any occasion. Those who made contributions are Marc Mac of 4 Hero, singer/producer Erik Rico, who's done tracks for Tupac Shakur, Jazz vocalist Diana Krall, Kan Sano, Portformat, Amalia, GB and more. For complete tracklisting, more info and to pre-order, log on to TDR: The Heart Vol. 2. CD editions will be available July 29th.
