The Record Realm Podcast #17

During the absence of blog posts over the last two years, The Record Realm has still been doing its share of work within the music and arts community by co-producing a number of Hip-Hop shows, as well as the latest installment called Reggae On The Rail, which featured live Reggae bands from the Houston Metropolitan area and myself (DJ Kool Emdee) spinning Reggae, Rocksteady and Dub music. Another thing that developed in that time span is a series of podcasts, consisting of many different styles and genres to give listeners an idea of the musical diversity of DJ Kool Emdee.

It is with great pleasure that we present to you the latest edition of the podcast series that's power-packed with some soulful goodies, ranging from the likes of Danish producer Kriswontwo, Calamity, Da U.A, Philippe Edison, George Duke, and more. Currently we are transferring podcast files from Soundcloud to our new home at HearThis.at. More podcasts will be uploaded over time. Give us a follow to stay updated.

808: The Movie

My apologies for not posting this sooner. For those in the Austin area, you still have a bit of time to catch the premier of this historical movie, that's already raising eyebrows, about the TR-808 drum machine that revolutionized and changed music forever. Log on to the 808: The Movie official website for more information on additional showtimes and theaters that will host the viewing.

Omar: Dancing (K15 Remix)

In my never ending thirst for music, I came across the music of K15 in my usual quest. This guy is brilliant, to put it mildly. He claims that he was going through a musical block when he came across the "Dancing" a capella done by London soul legend Omar. Originally, the track was produced by Zed Bias, but K15 gave his share of the royal treatment by putting his own signature to the vocals. If music blocks are like this, I can only imagine the sounds that come out when his brain is in high gear. When you drop by his page, say thanks for the download.

Jneiro Jarel: Camouflaged Thieves

A major salute to my homie Jneiro Jarel as he kicks off 2015 with a single that's as aggressive as the soldiers and police officers in this military state these governments are trying to force us into. "Camouflaged Thieves" is a fusion of tribal drumming, a funky bassline, and the rhythmic styling of garage music. This is the first single taken from his upcoming Indio EP that will be dropping soon. Get the vocal and instrumental by way of Bandcamp.

Footmerc ft. Woolrich: I Get Hype

Since it's still morning time, here's a tasty jam to go with your breakfast toast. This is a brand new collaborative Footwork track that was "Merc'ed" Texas style by the one and only Footmerc, and partner in crime Woolrich. Hats off to this guy and the way he does his tunes. It's as if he closely studied the pioneers, such as DJ Rashad, DJ Earl, Traxxman, and the other Footwork greats. Not much info has been given on a release date. Hopefully there will be more news soon. Enjoy!

Ri33Z: C0MVN1CAT10N$ C0RRVPT3D

A massive shout out of appreciation goes to Ri33Z who hit me on Soundcloud and sent me a few of his tunes to spin. I'm a huge fan of Footwork and bass music, and this guy nails it proper. He sent a message stating that he recently relocated to Denver, Colorado, so if you're a reader in that area, give him some local support and attend his live DJ sets. For my readers worldwide, you know what time it is on the support tip. $$$

Harikiri: Natsu EP + Remixes

Thanks to a post on Soundcloud by production duo X&G (XIANMUSIC & GASZIA), it led me to a sweet EP titled Natsu by an artist named Harikiri who hails from London. This EP dropped in April of this year, but in the spirit of the holiday season, he's gifting it for a limited time. All you have to do is visit his Harikiri website, sign up for his newsletter, and the EP and remixes are free. This guy knows how to create some bangers. Further support would be helpful to him.

Koda & Bijou: There (A Sol Mechanic Remix)

Los Angeles based producer Koda has collaborated with Montreal based vocalist Bijou to work some electronic magic. A year ago they both dropped their single "There", but a few days ago, a friend of theirs, A Sol Mechanic gave it a retouch and released it on Bandcamp as a gift to listeners.

Beeisthefuture: Twisted Intafuation [Music Video]

About a month ago while at work I met this talented young artist from New Orleans who calls himself Beeisthefuture. After his performance grabbed my attention and to hear more of his tracks, that he produces himself, his sound and style gives him rights to the name. Recently, he gave me a heads up on the new video for his "Twisted Infatuation" single taken from his For You album that he released via Soundcloud. Grab the album for free, but don't forget that artists love support. Enjoy!

Captain Planet: Esperanto Slang

I'm surprised at myself for not having posted in a month. During that long break, I have received a gang of good music that I will share in the days to come. To start things off again, here's the latest from DJ Captain Planet that dropped two days ago, called Esperanto Slang. In his usual music quests, CP conquers dancefloors with his global grooves. I have included several of his tracks and remixes in my live DJ sets and online mixes. Grab the freebie called "Cicada", but don't forget to purchase the deluxe vinyl package that's loaded with goodies. Digital and CD formats are also available for purchase.

Stram: Unused So Far

It's sort of a lazy Sunday afternoon here at The Record Realm headquarters, and the relaxing soundtrack that's being played in the background on repeat is the recent release from Montpellier, France based producer STRAM, titled Unused So Far. This is one of the hottest beat albums out right now and it's been in heavy rotation bumping through my monitors for the last few days. There's an excellent remix of Aaliyah's "Rock The Boat" that gives a much different twist, in comparison to other remixes of the song. Hit up his Bandcamp page and get this offering as a free download. He has other projects for purchase, so make sure you check those out. They are just as amazing. Enjoy!

Daniel Crawford ft. Vikter Duplait: The One

Los Angeles is home to a lot of great musicians. Daniel Crawford has proven to be one of those in the ranks, who's skill has earned him privileges to tour with the likes of Raphael Saadiq, Angie Stone, Evelyn "Champagne" King, The Brothers Johnson, and many other notables in Soul and R&B. His sophomore album The Awakening houses the vocals and writing talents of Amp Fiddler, Vikter Duplaix, and Cleveland Jones, as well as the musicianship of flautist Monet.

The Awakening is another solid production that takes you on a musical journey through Jazz, Hip-Hop, Soul, and R&B. "The One" visits the electronica side, with the vocals and lyrics of Vikter Duplait, in traditional Broken Beat fashion. Deep House producer Osunlade picks this as his favorite from the album.

After you follow Daniel on Soundcloud, I recommend you grab the download of his remix of Usher's "Good Kisser". The guy is a heck of a re-mixer and does some excellent mixtape work, paying homage to J-Dilla and Michael Jackson. Enjoy!

Troumaca: The Sun

Locally, we have been getting a lot of rain, so I thought I would post this to add a little sunshine to your morning, regardless if it's cloudy or not. On yesterday via Soundcloud, Brownswood Recordings uploaded a freebie titled "The Sun" by Birmingham, England recording artists Troumaca. Hopefully this is the lure to get you hooked so you will show your support for this band by purchasing their album, The Grace, which is out now.
