Jneiro Jarel: Camouflaged Thieves

A major salute to my homie Jneiro Jarel as he kicks off 2015 with a single that's as aggressive as the soldiers and police officers in this military state these governments are trying to force us into. "Camouflaged Thieves" is a fusion of tribal drumming, a funky bassline, and the rhythmic styling of garage music. This is the first single taken from his upcoming Indio EP that will be dropping soon. Get the vocal and instrumental by way of Bandcamp.

Eric Lau & Tawiah: Favourite Truth feat. Kaidi Tatham

For all my music junkies and vinyl heads alike, UK producer Eric Lau has teamed up with British vocalist Tawiah on a collaborative project titled Love Call EP, which will be Eric's sophomore project set for release on May 12th on Northern Shore Limited. The first single "Favourite Truth" also features veteran multi-instrumentalist Kaidi Tatham of Bugz In The Attic/2000black. Not only is this a music project, there will be a special bundle you can purchase that will include a digital download of the EP, stickers, a t-shirt, and a 5x7 inch postcard flexi-disc of the "Favourite Truth" single. To pre-order and get more info on this project visit their Bandcamp page.

Estère: Estère

I've said many times before about how artists from New Zealand seem to keep the soul game on lock with their unique approach. Thanks to a share on social media, I checked out one of the latest, greatest by the name of Estère, who has released her self-titled debut on Bandcamp. Her music weapon of choice in an MPC, who she fondly calls "Lola". Together they produce what she calls "Electric Blue Witch-Hop".

This young blossoming musician from Wellington proves that there is still plenty of good music for people to enjoy without getting caught in the web of mainstream cookie-cutter clutter. Her smooth vocals and production style is evident that she has studied many greats of the present and past. Keep posted on upcoming developments and appearances by following her on Twitter and Facebook.

Hior Chronik: Still Foggy (Cosmonaut Grechko Version)

I'm on my "Johnny come lately" thing again, but we should be clear that good music has no expiration date. 21 year old Russian producer Victor Klyuchnikov, a.k.a. Cosmonaut Grechko dropped his version of Hior Chronik's "Still Foggy" earlier this year and I see it has created quite a buzz. Both of these guys have some real talent and I look forward to gaining more insight and to get an ear full of more music from them. Get this one at a "name your price" basis and also check out the Sole' Fixtape Vol.7 that features this one in the mix.

Dezaray Dawn: The Dawning

The new full length release The Dawning from the talented singer-songwriter and producer, Dezaray Dawn is available now via Bandcamp. For those of you who like an eclectic blend on one album, this is another sure-shot to have as part of your collection. Outside of the groove on "Chameleon", one of my other favorites on the album is "Brand New", a tune about renewal of self. The wake up call comes on the jazzy Afro-Beat influenced "Don't You Dare", mentioning of how we have to play the cards that were dealt to us and not blame anyone else for mistakes we have caused for ourselves.

To keep updated for upcoming shows and other news for Dezaray Dawn, give her a "LIKE" on her Facebook fan page.

Hanami: Fruition

U.K. based producer Hanami [Japanese: "flower watching"], known by his friends as Ryan Newton, is debuting his eclectic sounds on Finest Ego 12 inch Series Vol.5 of the upcoming Faces compilation that will drop on July 26th on Project Mooncircle. A few hours ago the official video for his "Fruition" tune, which will be featured on the double LP, was uploaded to Youtube. Not only is this a wonderful tune, I also like the way he fuses ethnic percussion and house style synths in his music to help further stretch the limits of electronica. DJs and vinyl enthusiasts can pre-order the limited vinyl from Rush Hour, or you can get digital downloads of the album from their Bandcamp page or other fine download sites.

Kriswontwo x MonoNeon: WEON

Here's WEON, the latest avant-garde instrumental project that stems from a collaborative effort from Scandinavian producer Kriswontwo and bassist MonoNeon (born Dywane Thomas, Jr.) a Memphis, Tennessee native, that dropped just last month.

Kriswontwo made his debut in 2010 with his Directions By Forest Won album that featured the vocals of Dudley Perkins and Georgia Anne Muldrow. MonoNeon played bass on the album. Since then, Kris has released a number of EP's and singles that featured the likes of Alex Rita and MC Johnny Prince. He's currently set to release another full length album and an EP in the near future.

MonoNeon's work includes playing bass for The Bar-Kays, Denise Williams, The Sylistics and Ne-Yo, just to name a few. He's well known for his upside down slap and pop style. Meaning, he's left handed, but uses a right handed bass that he plays upside down. MonoNeon gained the attention of Marcus Miller with his unique playing style. In a Bass Player magazine interview, Miller mentioned MonoNeon as one of several "young bad cats" he has met on the scene.

For now, we're gonna keep it short and sweet with "Ananse". They are offering the full project as a "name your price" deal. Don't forget to show love.

Gas-Lab & Traum Diggs ft. Natayle: Jazz Hop

One of our blog followers by the name of Gas-Lab, a very talented producer from Buenos Aires, Argentina, has blessed us with some fresh newness by collaborating with New York rapper Traum Diggs and vocalist Natayle to release the first single and title cut of their Jazz Hop album that's due out real soon.

"This project is about the global power and influence of hip-hop music and how it can be used to unify (across) cultures, continents, and languages. We dedicate this project to lovers of jazz, lovers of hip-hop, and to the pioneers who came before us. We conspired to inspire a rebirth of a jazz-influenced hip-hop sound on the dawn of an electronic wave that is poised to dominate the genre for the foreseeable future. Maybe we’re brave; maybe we’re stupid, only time and our fans will tell." - Traum Diggs

After that reflection from Traum about the project, and already being familiar with Gas-Lab's work, I can't wait to hear the rest of the album. This single already has me pretty excited. Enjoy!

Submerse: Truth [Official Video]

It's been awhile since i've posted anything from Project Mooncircle, so i'm gonna hit'cha with this new heater they released last month by Submerse called "Truth", off his Algorithms and Ghosts EP.

Originally hailing from Cheshire, UK, now living in Tokyo, here's what Submerse had to say about the inspiration he received for making the EP:

"I took a lot of inspiration from 3 main points of Tokyo City. There are traditional parks and shrines/temples that really take you away from the high rise buildings and make you feel like you could be in the countryside. Next, there are typical shops, neon lights, offices and general city life, and lastly, there is the red light area which is a great place to see all walks of life, from gangsters, working girls and strange things behind closed doors. I'm fascinated by this place, It seems like another world to me, I'm always drawn to it out of curiosity and the feeling I get while passing though is really inspiring."

BLACK MUSIC MONTH 2012

Atlanta based singer Stacy Epps, a superwoman who does everything, has been in the lab focusing on a new project with French producer Astronote, which is a self titled album they call Rakotep that's coming soon. After listening to the "2" singles uploaded to their Bandcamp page, I don't have the slightest doubt the whole project is breathtaking. ENJOY!

Ark & Mama Crow: Avery

"Avery" is a captivating tune, to say the least. I've been soaking this composition in for the last couple of weeks and am finally getting around to posting it. Ark and Mama Crow describe their sound as; "The Eurythmics meets The Knife meets Never Ending Story. This down-tempo, soulfully mellow track is interlaced with ancient story and epic, fantasy soundscapes." Not only am I thoroughly enjoying this single, but she also has one of her older works, which is great too, available on her Bandcamp page. Grab the FREE download and also show your support for indie art by purchasing her Indigo album. ENJOY!

Gas-Lab: Shining

A couple of weeks ago I did a previous post on Gas-Lab, a super dope producer from Bueno Aires, Argentina. To my surprise, he sent me a comment about that post that contained the link to his new video for "Shining" off his Teoria Instrumental Vol.2 beat CD, that blends Jazz, Hip-Hop, Soul, Blues and some good old fashioned Funk. He's offering this single for free, however, i'm sure I can speak for him by asking you to buy this recommended album to help in him continuing to spread some musical love. Enjoy!

Velcro: El Mundo Entero (Gas-Lab Remix)

Being unfamiliar with Gas-Lab, i'm wondering how is it I didn't know about him sooner. I came across his Bandcamp page, pressed play and my heart started fluttering. This cat sure can tap the pads on his MPC-1000 and make it "sing" beautifully. Enough of my ranting, just check out his remix of "El Mundo Entero" by Velcro. Kudos to Buenos Aires for producing this prodigy. Enjoy!

Those Chosen: This Is cA

I'm thankful to those who send me good music to my inbox. It's refreshing to get tunes by cats who are younger than I am, who are not on this current mainstream type of vibe. Japetto, Kornbread and Foreshadow make up the Hip-Hop trio known as Those Chosen. Currently they have a "banger" out right now titled "This Is cA" which talks about their fast paced surroundings of where they call home. Track is produced by Rich Kidd and features the vocals of Blake Carrington. Peep the video below then bless yourself with a free download.
