The Record Realm Podcast #17

During the absence of blog posts over the last two years, The Record Realm has still been doing its share of work within the music and arts community by co-producing a number of Hip-Hop shows, as well as the latest installment called Reggae On The Rail, which featured live Reggae bands from the Houston Metropolitan area and myself (DJ Kool Emdee) spinning Reggae, Rocksteady and Dub music. Another thing that developed in that time span is a series of podcasts, consisting of many different styles and genres to give listeners an idea of the musical diversity of DJ Kool Emdee.

It is with great pleasure that we present to you the latest edition of the podcast series that's power-packed with some soulful goodies, ranging from the likes of Danish producer Kriswontwo, Calamity, Da U.A, Philippe Edison, George Duke, and more. Currently we are transferring podcast files from Soundcloud to our new home at HearThis.at. More podcasts will be uploaded over time. Give us a follow to stay updated.

Kriswontwo: Boondigga Beat Challenge

I have mad respect for Kriswontwo, the mad Danish producer who calls Copenhagen home. I was chatting it up a bit with him earlier today and he alerted me to his latest video where he was challenged by the Boondigga crew to do a track sampling all three randomly selected records from a few stacks while blindfolded. The results....a banger as usual. Check out the video, then leave a comment on the Youtube page to give a shout. Or, follow Kriswontwo on Twitter.

Turntable Tuesdays: DJ Kool Emdee: The Hop

One of my latest all Hip-Hop mixes that features some local talent and other well known indie acts. A few classics from the 1990s are mixed in as well. Listen, enjoy, and be sure to look the artists up. There's a complete tracklist to accompany the mix. Enjoy!

Kriswontwo x Skyzoo: Achievements [Official Video]

As the year 2014 is gradually coming to a close, a lot of great artists are closing out the year with a huge bang...or "BANGERS" [not the British term for sausages], I should say. Leading the pack is my Scandinavian brother Kriswontwo with his brand new self-titled debut. He comes out the gate in full stride with his first single and video that features Brooklyn emcee Skyzoo. Additional choir like vocals are done by Washing D.C. soul singer Nicolas Ryan Gant. Let's not forget the chops from that mean axe by Thor Madsen. Watch and get hype!

Georgia Anne Muldrow: Dimensions [Video]

Over the past weekend, SomeOthaShip Connect uploaded the brand new "Dimensions" video from Georgia Anne Muldrow, a follow-up from her Ms. One EP, that takes you on a kaleidoscope journey through the direction of Thomas Piper. GAM's flawless vocal delivery laid over the hypnotic production of Kriswontwo can make you get excited about Hip-Hop again. Not to mention she erases all doubt that there are no women who represent the artform and have messages on life, love and culture. Don't forget to order your digital copy via Bandcamp or iTunes. Vinyl copies will be available soon. Stay tuned!

Georgia Anne Muldrow: These Worlds [Ms. One (Rap EP) OUT NOW!]

It appears that I have dropped the ball again in posting upcoming releases. I thought I posted weeks ago about the release of Georgia Anne Muldrow's Ms. One (Rap EP) [dropped 6/24/2014], which is her debuting a full rap album. The original intent was to post the timelapse video that features the makings of the cover art by Juse One and one of the tracks from the album. Production for the entire album is done by my homie across the water, the great Kriswontwo! The man is an evil genius, but an overall good dude. Show your love and support by purchasing this work of art that comes from all angles.

Busta Rhymes x Kriswontwo: WOOHAH! (Got You All In Check) [Remix]

This has got to be one of the best Busta Rhymes remixes that i've ever heard. My homie Kriswontwo sent me an email to give me a heads up and I was blown away by the thump in my headphones. Check the hypeness for yourself. Just be careful not to turn over any furniture. HA!

Kriswontwo x MonoNeon: WEON

Here's WEON, the latest avant-garde instrumental project that stems from a collaborative effort from Scandinavian producer Kriswontwo and bassist MonoNeon (born Dywane Thomas, Jr.) a Memphis, Tennessee native, that dropped just last month.

Kriswontwo made his debut in 2010 with his Directions By Forest Won album that featured the vocals of Dudley Perkins and Georgia Anne Muldrow. MonoNeon played bass on the album. Since then, Kris has released a number of EP's and singles that featured the likes of Alex Rita and MC Johnny Prince. He's currently set to release another full length album and an EP in the near future.

MonoNeon's work includes playing bass for The Bar-Kays, Denise Williams, The Sylistics and Ne-Yo, just to name a few. He's well known for his upside down slap and pop style. Meaning, he's left handed, but uses a right handed bass that he plays upside down. MonoNeon gained the attention of Marcus Miller with his unique playing style. In a Bass Player magazine interview, Miller mentioned MonoNeon as one of several "young bad cats" he has met on the scene.

For now, we're gonna keep it short and sweet with "Ananse". They are offering the full project as a "name your price" deal. Don't forget to show love.

Sweatshop: The Getaway EP

After posting Omar Lye-Fook's "The Man" video last month, I was contacted by Kriswontwo about a funky fresh group from Denmark who goes by the name of Sweatshop, which consists of members Jonas Rendbo as the lead singer, Kuku Agami on rap vocals and Daniel Fridell on production. Their EP The Getaway just touched down on November 7th and the first single is "Drug". Time to get your neck ready for some serious head nod action by pressing play on the official video below. Enjoy!
