DJ Kool Emdee: Love's Holiday

LOVE has been the subject in many places lately. I take it since spring is practically here, that feeling is soaring in the hearts of many. Hopefully, this feeling will be passed around to many and maybe we can do some type of healing and start having more compassion toward one another. Let's see if Stevie Wonder, Iman Williams, Chaka Khan, Sa-Ra Creative Partners, Rozzi Daime and a host of others can help us to get there with this mix on the subject of LOVE. For the full tracklisting of this mix, go here. ENJOY!

J-Dilla: Still Shining Documentary

DILLA DAY is being celebrated today all over the United States and in multiple countries around the world in honor of J-Dilla/Jay Dee. Today marks the 6th anniversary of this legendary producer's transition into the spirit realm. Tonight, we will be hosting our 6th anniversary of doing tributes to J-Dilla with our own celebration of Dilla Day 2012 at my friend's bar here in Houston.

Today there will only be posts in relation to J-Dilla. At tonight's tribute, we will kick it off with a video presentation of the Still Shining documentary that was produced and directed by Brian "B.Kyle" Atkins of Gifted Films Inc.

Sunday Jazz @ Khon's: Cory Wilson Trio

The last few weeks have been great for me, and I have been taking it all in stride hanging out with my family and friends. In between gigs, I have taken in a little more of the live music scene, hearing some blues bands, old school cover bands and to visit my good friends over at Khon's Bar in Midtown. Yeah, it's the spot where I used to spin at on occasion.

Along with fellow patrons, drinks and good food, there are also chances for you to hear many good local musicians and to feast your eyes on some hot visual art that accents the whole experience. This past Sunday, me and my family went to hear this cool cat on sax named Cory Wilson and his comrades on upright bass and drums for Sunday Jazz. It's an excellent way to close out your weekend before heading home to get rested to start your work week again. For hours, music schedules and other information, log on to Khon's Bar.

Thumpin' Thursdays @ Khon's Bar

There's a neat spot tucked away in Houston's Midtown area where you can get a taste of many worlds that includes art, wine, coffee, darts, games, DJs, live music, and most of all, good company. Khon, the owner has a very smooth and mellow attitude, and likes to make his patrons get a good laugh often while he pours his heart out grilling specialty items. And brother can he throw down with making some good food.

I'm happy to be hosting Thumpin' Thursdays (every 2nd & 4th Thursday) here because it's one of my favorite spots to hang out and get a pint of Abita Turbo Dog beer and just kick back, relax, and take in some good tunes...granted i'm not DJing. Grab your family, friends, and even the kids to come out and have a great time. I can guarantee you'll be back. Be sure to log on to his website for location, schedule of events and phone number at KhonsBar.com and join his group on Facebook at Khon's: wine | darts | coffee | art.

For now, enjoy a promo mix I put together to help get you in the mood for what's in store. All photos courtesy of Devonie Baker.
